of Matthews (//Samuel//3, //Samuel//2,
//Ralph//1) and Sarah (Grumman).
James served as Quartermaster Sergeant in the Revolutionary War.
He enlisted in July 1776, and received his warrant as Quartermaster
of Col. John Mead's Regt., 20 Aug. 1776. He served until the
Spring of 1779. From Mar. 1779 he served a year in Capt. Ozias
Marvin's Co. of coast guards, seeing action when Fairfield and
Norwalk were burned. He then served three years, 1780-83, in
Capt. Raymond's Co. of coast guards.
Will of James Seymour of Norwalk, dated 31 Mar. 1831, proved
19 Dec. 1834, named wife Rebecca, sister-in-law Abigail Olmstead
who is to have a room in my house and a seat in my pew, sons James
Seymour, Jr., and John Seymour who are to be executors, daughters
Hannah wife of Andrew Hanford, Rebecca wife of Joseph
Lockwood, Ruth wife of Asa Benedict, Polly wife of William Weeks,
and the heirs of daughter Lucretia Brooks deceased.
