MAJOR FREDERICK A.8 SEYMOUR (1819-1903) spent his younger manhood in Ohio, where his family had settled. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Seymour enlisted in the Seventh Ohio Vols., and was at once made Captain of his company, later receiving his com-mission as Major for gallant conduct on the field of battle. At the battle of Antietam, the command of his regiment devolved for a time on Major Seymour, all his superior officers being either killed or wounded. From the close of the war until 1869, Major Seymour lived in Ohio, returning then to West Hartford. There he served several years as selectman, was Representative from West Hartford in the General Assembly of 1871, and was for a time a deputy sheriff. He was a member of Wyllys Lodge, A.F. and A.M., and of Robert O. Tyler Post, G.A.R.
