+He enlisted in the War of 1812, at Albany, Sept. 1814, was Orderly Sergt., and
+stationed at Staten Island. By trade a bookbinder, he pursued that business
+successfully in Albany for several years. He served as Alderman, 1822 to 1832; a
+member of the State Legislature in 1832 and 1836; and for eleven years he was
+Collector and Inspector of the port of Albany, receiving his appointment from
+President Jackson. He was prominent in the Masonic Order, and was Grand
+Treasurer of the Grand Chapter of New York for many years. He was for several
+years Chamberlain of the City of Albany; a director of the Albany City Bank from
+its incorporation in 1834 until his death; and a director of the Albany Medical
+College from its organization.
