1)
A Capt. Thomas Seymour married (license dated 11 May 1737), Ariaantje Elsworth, baptized 19 July 1718, living 1745, daughter of Theophilus and Sarah (Verduyn), by whom he had two children baptized at the Dutch Church, New York: Sarah, 12 Oct. 1740, and Martha, 9 Feb. 1743. The gap in the children of Capt. Thomas of New Canaan might suggest that these records pertained to him, were it not that the military appointments show that the New Canaan man was residing tbere in 1737 and 1742. Capt. Thomas of New York was a mariner, from Long Island, commander of a brigantine, and possibly was son of Capt. William and Rachel, and brother of Martha who m. by 1728 Gabriel Sherwuod.
