37. Thomas Seymour

37. THOMAS5 SEYMOUR (Matthew4, Matthew3, Thomas2, Richard1), of Ridgefield, Conn., born at Ridgefield about 1728, died there 16 Feb. 1812 in 85th year; married at Ridgefield, 17 Feb. 175-, SARAH3 ROCKWELL, born at Ridgefield, 1 Mar. 1733, died there 27 Apr. 1814, aged 81, daughter of Thomas2 (Thomas2) and Ruth (Benedict).

Will of Thomas Seymour of Ridgefield, dated 6 Mar. 1806, proved 26 Feb. 1812. To wife Sarah, the improvement of one-third of the real estate during her life, and one-third of the personal estate forever. To daughter Ruth, $57, besides what I have already given her. To daughter Sarah, the use of one room on the lower floor of my house while she is unmarried, also $150 as a reward for services she has done me since she came of age. To daughter Hannah, $60, besides what I have given her. To son Jared, two acres of land. To son Thaddeus, one-half of the dwelling house and one-half of the barn. To five sons Thomas, Jared, Abijah, Matthew, and Thaddeus, rest of the estate. Nathan Smith, Esq., and Jared Olmsted to be executors. Inventory of above estate taken 17 Mar. 1812. A receipt dated Ridgefield, 25 Sept. 1812, was given by Gershom Lockwood. and wife Hannah for her bequest, similar ones dated 28 Sept. 1812 by Thomas and Ruth Scott and Sarah Seymour, the daughter. Distribution of the above estate was made 15 Nov. 1812 between Thomas, Jared, Abijah, Matthew and Thaddeus Seymour, Sarah Seymour the daughter, and Sarah Seymour the widow.

Administration upon the estate of Sarah Seymour late of Ridgefield deceased was granted to Samuel Stebbins and Thaddeus Seymour both of Ridgefield, 9 July 1832. Distribution of said estate made 20 April 1833 between Samuel Seymour, son of Thomas, who was a brother of Sarah; Molly, Stephen, and Betsy Ann Gilbert, heirs of Anna Gilbert who was a daughter of said Thomas; Abijah Seymour, a brother of Sarah; Matthew Seymour, another brother; Ruth Scott, a sister; Betsey Canfield and Rufus Lockwood, heirs of Hannah Lockwood dec'd, another sister; and Thaddeus Seymour, a brother.

i. THOMAS6, b. 20 Dec. 1756; d. at Wilton, Conn., before 3 June 1820 (division of estate); m. at Ridgefield, 3 May 1785, ANNA5 OLMSTEAD, b. at Ridgefield, 19 Jan. 1756, d. 9 or 19 Oct. 1849, dau. of Stephen4 (Richard3, John2, Richard1) and Hannah (Northrup). Two children.
ii. HANNAH, b. 10 Aug. 1758; d. 22 Aug. 1758.
iii. JARED, b. 3 Aug. 1759; d. at Ridgefield, 6 Aug. 1831; m. at Salem, N.Y., 15 or 16 July 1805, ESTHER5 KELLOGG, b. at Norwalk or Ridgefield, 4 Mar. 1771, d. at Ridgefield, 21 June 1844, dau, of Daniel4 (Daniel3, Daniel2, Daniel1) and Elizabeth (Boalt). No issue.
iv. ABIJAH, b. 9 July 1762; d. at Ridgefield, 25 Apr. 1848; m. at Norwalk, 29 Sept. 1782, ELIZABETH HINES, b. 18 Aug. 1760, d. 25 Feb. 1839. Seven children.
v. MATTHEW, b. 20 Feb. 1765; d. at Ridgefield, 4 Feb. 1842; m. BETSEY GREGORY; no children named in his will.
vi. RUTH, b. 8 Apr. 1770; d. at Ridgefield, 29 Feb. 1848, aged 78; m. at Ridgefield, 21 Apr. 1788, THOMAS SCOTT, who d. before June 1832.
vii. SARAH, b. 12 Apr. 1773; d. unm. 14 Feb. 1832, aged 59 (gravestone).
viii. HANNAH, b. 4 Mar. 1775; d. 9 Mar. 1826, aged 53; m. May 1798, GERSHOM6 LOCKWOOD, b. at Fairfield, 17 Sept. 1776, d. at Lewisboro, N. Y, s. of Michael5 (John4, John3, Joseph2, Robert1) and Abigail (Adams).
ix. THADDEUS, b. 10 Mar. 1782; d. at Ridgefield, 22 May 1834; m. ABIAH NASH, b. 21 Apr. 1782, d. 13 Nov. 1862, dau. of Abraham and Sarah (Olmstead). Six children.
