59. CAPT. JOHN5 SEYMOUR (John4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at Hartford, Conn., 24 Nov. 1726, died at West Hartford, Conn., 5 Feb. (2 Feb. by gravestone) 1809 aged 82; married at West Hartford, 19 June 1749, LYDIA4 WADSWORTH, born at Hartford, 1 Feb. 1731/2, died at West Hartford, 16 Mar. 1817 aged 87, daughter of Jonathan3 (Joseph2, William1) and Abigail (Flagg).

John Seymour fought in the Indian war in 1746, and in 1756 was drafted to march against the Indians and French. He was appointed 2d Lieut. of Lt.-Col. Payson's Co., 1st Regt., in 1758. He served also in the Revolution, as Lieut. of Capt. Noah Webster's Co., Sept. 1777. “He was a brave soldier and officer, and the sword he wore when a captain is in the Historical Society collection at Hartford.”

Doubtless tbe Captain Charles Pond (1744.1832), of Milford, Conn., who ferried Captain Nathan Hale and his friend. Sergeant Stephen Hempstead, across tbe Sound from Norwalk to Huntington, Long Island, where Hale entered the enemy's lines, never to return, in September, 1776.-G. D. S.

In 1849, Cynthia Gilbert, aged 78, of Hartford. testified regarding Revolutionary service of James Seymour (No. 110); she was married in 1796. Although the age corresponds, she does not appear to be identical with Cynthia Seymour.
