298. NORMAN8 SEYMOUR (Norman7, Norman6, Timothy5, Timothy4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at Herkimer, N.Y., 16 Dec. 1819, died at Mt. Morris, N.Y., 21 Feb. 1892; married 21 Oct. 1843, FRANCES HALE METCALF, born at Port Hope, Canada West, 22 Nov. 1825, daughter of Henry Hale and Mary (Bond) of Keene, N.H.

He was a merchant for forty years, of Mt. Morris, N.Y., and was one of the founders of the Livingston County Historical Society; author of the History of Livingston County, N.Y.

i. MARY CATHERINE9, b. 29 Aug. 1844; m. 18 Aug. 1868. GEORGE ROGERS HOWELL, b. at Southampton, L.I., 15 June 1833, d. at Albany, N.Y., 5 Apr. 1899, s. of Capt. Charles and Mary (Rogers). He was graduated from Yale College, 1854; author of History of Southampton, N.Y. (1887); State Librarian, New York, 1872-1899.
ii. HENRY HALE, b. 27 Oct. 1846.
iii. NORMAN ALEXANDER, b. 14 Feb. 1849; m. at Rochester, N.Y., 1 Sept. 1874, MARY ELIZABETH CURTIS, b. at Rochester, 8 Aug. 1853, dau. of Joseph and Mary Braithwaite (Fish). Children:
I. Mary Frances10, b. 13 June 1875; m. 22 June 1898, Frank Eastwood Van Dorn.
II. Elizabeth Katharine, b. 10 Nov. 1877.
III. Charlotte, b. 22 Apr. 1882.
iv. EDWARD CHASE, b. 15 Mar. 1855.

HENRY HALE9 SEYMOUR (1846– ) was educated at Mt. Morris Academy and Dartmouth College (1867-68), and was graduated (B.S.) from Cornell University, 1871, where he was winner of the Goldsmith prize. He visited Europe six times. He settled in Buffalo, N.Y.; bar examiner, 4th Department, 1884-93; Lt.-Col., Judge Advocate, 4th Division, National Guard, New York, 1889; lecturer on agency and partnership, Buffalo Law School, 1889-94; U. S. Commissioner of Jurors since 1890; Erie County Supreme Court, Deputy Commissioner of Jurors, since 1895. He was author of “Ceramic Art in Egypt.” He was a member of Buffalo Club, and president of University Club, and owned a country place. “The Terraces,” Mt. Morris, N.Y.
