NATHAN PERKINS SEYMOUR, LL.D. (1813-1891)

A native of Hartford, Conn., and a great-great-grandson of Thomas Clap (1703–1767, Harvard College 1722), President of Yale College; grandfather of Charles Seymour, President of Yale University.

Educated at Hopkins Grammar School, Hartford, and Yale College (B.A., 1834); LL.D. (Kenyon College, 1867). Rector of the Hopkins Grammar School of Hartford, 1834-1836; tutor in Yale College, 1836-1840; Professor of Latin and Greek in Western Reserve College, Hudson, Ohio, 1840-70; thereafter Professor Emeritus, but continued as lecturer on English literature, both at Western Reserve and at other colleges and schools, including Yale College and the School at Farmington, Conn., of Miss Sarah Porter, sister of President Porter of Yale.
